  1. Son Net Policies and Procedure Manual                  JANUARY 1993

  3. This document details the process by which Son-Net operates.
  4.  
  5. This Network is for the discussion of religious matters from a
  6. Bible-Believing Christian perspective, one does not have to be a Christian 
  7. to participate, but should be aware that this is the approach that SON-net
  8. and it's management takes.
  9.  
  10. SON-net is operated by an administrative staff which has the
  11. following members:
  12.  
  13.        Mr. Paul Schmidt, Network Administrator
  14.        Mr. Alan Yusko, System Operator, Seed Sowers BBS.
  15.  
  16. Our Originating Hub is The Seed Sowers BBS, located in Willowdale,
  17. Ontario, Canada.  Willowdale is a suburb of Metropolitain Toronto. You
  18. can contact The Seed Sowers BBS at (416)498-5259 (V.32bis) or
  19. (416)498-5962 (2400 baud).  SON-net is also carried by the IMEX network.
  20. BBS's may receive their feed directly from IMEX if desired.

  22. We invite new users and Bulletin boards to join our network, and I hope
  23. you find it a warm and friendly place.  We invite System Operators to
  24. contact any network node for an application.  Most applications will be
  25. approved fairly quickly.  We may however contact your BBS from time to
  26. time as part of the acceptance process.

  28. We intend to make admittance fairly easy, providing:
  29.  
  30.            - You accept SON-net rules and regulations
  31.            - Your board is not an alias board (real names only!)
  32.            - Your board does not operate as an Elite Board (pirate)
  33.            - Your board is run in an honest and legal manner
  34.

  36.   - Leaving a message to SON-net Admin in the NETUSERS conference
  37.     in a SON-net node BBS
  38.   - By signing onto The Seed Sowers BBS and joining the COMMENTS
  39.     conference (Number 1).

  49. Son-Net Rules and Regulations.

  51. Note:
  52.  
  53. Some rules and regulations do not apply to Imex members (those have been
  54. marked as such), however all other regulations of the SON-net network DO
  55. apply to Imex members while they are within the SON-net conferences.
  56.  
  57. Section 1    User Regulations
  58.  
  59.      1.0  User:  A person who participates in the network.
  60.      
  61.      1.1  Insulting or name calling or putting down another network user
  62.           is not permitted.  Putting down another BBS, whether that BBS
  63.           is a member of this net or not, is also not permitted.
  64.  
  65.      1.2  The use of profanity is not permitted, nor is implying such by
  66.           masking some of the characters, if the moderator can tell what
  67.           word you implied, it will be considered an infraction.
  68.  
  69.      1.3  Blasphemy is not permitted.
  70.           1.3.1 A user may not believe in God, however mocking God,
  71.                 Christianity, or His Word, will be considered an
  72.                 infraction.

  74.      1.4  A user may freely disagree with another user, but you must
  75.           remain polite in your disagreement.  We encourage differing
  76.           viewpoints, however, religious discussion is often a hot
  77.           topic, and we are trying to keep everyone at peace.
  78.  
  79.      1.5  Messages must stay within the topic of the conference in which
  80.           they are posted.
  81.  
  82.      1.6  All users must use their real name, no aliases or handles are
  83.           permitted.  The Sysop is responsible to verify that users are
  84.           who they say they are.
  85.  
  86.      1.7  No illegal activity is permitted in messages on the Net.
  87.           Violation of this policy will result in immediate removal from
  88.           the Network.
  89.  
  90.      1.8  There is no such thing as receiver only or private mail in
  91.           the SON-net Network.  ALL messages can be read by the SON-net
  92.           Administrators, moderators, and sysops.  The receiver only
  93.           messages MAY also be readable by other users of differing
  94.           BBS's in the SON-net Network due to software glitches and the
  95.           receiver only flag being dropped as the message passes
  96.           throughout the net.  Messages whether marked private or
  97.           receiver only must still abide by all rules and regulations
  98.           of the SON-net network.

  100.      1.9  Troublesome users (who violate these regulations), may be
  101.           warned, asked to voluntarily leave a conference for a period of
  102.           time by the moderator, or the users originating Sysop may be asked
  103.           to remove the user from the conference and/or Network.

  105. Section 2    Node Regulations
  106.  
  107.      2.0  Node :  A BBS that makes network messages available to
  108.           users on their System.
  109.  
  110.      2.1  Nodes must be approved by the Network Administrator,
  111.           and assigned a network NodeID before they can access the
  112.           network.  The System Node is fully responsible for the long
  113.           distance costs of receiving the netmail from a recognised hub.
  114.  
  115.           2.1.1  To help minimize long distance costs, we will encourage
  116.                  many BBSes to act as hubs.   It is not required for
  117.                  all hubs to phone the the Originating hub.  This will
  118.                  encourage point to point transfers and hopefully keep
  119.                  long distance charges minimal. 
  120.  
  121.           2.1.2  We also permit any accurate method of transfer that you
  122.                  can arrange between your node and your hub.  For
  123.                  example : QWK Packets, Fido type messages, or PCRelay.
  124.  
  125.      2.2  Nodes must agree to abide by all system rules, before
  126.           they can be approved.  Using your NodeID, means that you agree
  127.           to accept these rules.

  129.      2.3  System nodes, may not transfer messages to another BBS, until
  130.           they have hub status approved by the Network Administrator.
  131.  
  132.      2.4  Nodes must abide by a moderator or Network Administrators request
  133.           to remove a user from a specific conference or conferences.
  134.  
  135.      2.5  System node operators must make their own arrangements for the
  136.           method of transfer used between the node and their hub.  This must
  137.           be agreed to by the Hub.
  138.  
  139.      2.6  Nodes that violate these regulations may have their
  140.           node access cut off by their hub on the request of the
  141.           Network Administrator.

  143.      2.7  System nodes must display their network tagline in this format:
  144.  
  145.              This section (2.7) does not apply to Imex members, they may
  146.              use their regular Imex tagline.
  147.

  153.           BBS-name = the name of your BBS

  161. Note:  For Private BBSes, they may enter the phone number as -private-

  167.      2.8  Sysops must make the SON-net information packet available
  168.           for download to all users, preferably as a FREE download
  169.           where technically possible.

  171. Section 3  Hub Regulations
  172.  
  173.      This section does not apply to Imex hubs, who are required to obey
  174.      Imex regulations for hub operation.  Note:  For Imex hubs we will
  175.      notify Imex of any violations of Imex rules, regarding SON-net
  176.      conferences.
  177.  
  178.      3.0   Hub : a BBS that transfers messages to another BBS.
  179.  
  180.      3.1   A node may apply to become a Hub, but does not become
  181.            a hub until they receive permission to transfer mail to
  182.            another BBS.
  183.  
  184.      3.2   Hubs may only transfer messages to approved nodes.
  185.  
  186.      3.3   Hubs agree to transfer messages from nodes to their hub
  187.            within 48 hours, preferably 24 hours.
  188.  
  189.      3.4   Hubs agree to abide by all regulations for nodes.
  190.  
  191.      3.5   Hubs are not permitted to delete or alter the contents of
  192.            messages on the network, in any form.
  193.            Note:  This only applies until all receiving nodes have
  194.            received the message.  This does NOT apply to messages
  195.            that originate from YOUR BBS.

  197. Section 4  Moderators
  198.  
  199.      4.0   A moderator is a person who moderates or referees a
  200.            conference.
  201.  
  202.      4.1   Moderators are approved as moderators by the Network
  203.            Administrator.  You must fill out an application, applying
  204.            does not guarantee acceptance.
  205.  
  206.      4.2   A Moderator has authority only in their own conference, they
  207.            may not moderate another conference.
  208.  
  209.      4.3   If a moderator is unavailable due to illness or vacation,
  210.            then he/she may ask another approved moderator to take over
  211.            in the interum.  The moderator should notify the Network
  212.            Administrator that this is the case.
  213.  
  214.      4.4   A moderator must give a minimum of two warnings of
  215.            infractions before they can request removal of a user.
  216.            The only exception is if the user grossly violates the
  217.            rules (cursing, exceeding blasphemy etc). In certain extreme
  218.            cases the moderator or SON-net Administration may request
  219.            immediate removal of a trouble user.
  220.                The moderator may then request the Node to remove the
  221.            user and the Node Sysop must comply upon receiving the
  222.            request.  The Moderator will report failure to do so to the
  223.            Network Administrator.
  224.                Should a user get out of hand, the moderator may request
  225.            the user to voluntarily stay out of the conference for a
  226.            short time.  This would be an alternative to the permanent
  227.            removal of a user from the conference.

  229.      4.5   A user may appeal to the Network Administrator the decision
  230.            of a moderator.  The decision of the Network Administrator is
  231.            FINAL.
